Meet the staff of the Preston Police Department

 

Chief Chad Gruver (49-31) & K-9 Partner "Abbe"

Chief Gruver was appointed Chief of Police in September of 2005, and had previously been a part-time officer since 1992. Chief Gruver holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Criminal Justice and is the department's firearms instructor, Taser instructor, field training officer, police cyclist and the department's K-9 handler. Chief Gruver graduated from the 130th Iowa Law Enforcement Academy's Basic Training in 1992.

 

Sgt. Joel Driscoll (49-32)

Joel joined the Preston Police Department in August of 2001 as a reserve police officer.  In April of 2003, Joel was hired as a regular officer and attended the 196th Basic Training Academy in 2003.  Joel is the department's ASP Baton Instructor and also holds Fire Fighter I certification with the Preston Fire Department. 

 

Officer "Abbe"

Abbe joined the Preston Police Department in September of 2006.  She is a 6 year-old black Labrador Retriever.   She is currently assigned to Chief Gruver, as a K-9 team.  Abbe is certified North American Police Work Dog Association in narcotics detection. 

 

Tony Urwin, Police Officer (49-33)

 

Tony was hired as a part-time police officer in June of 2007.  Tony joined the Preston Police Department as a reserve officer in July of 2004.  He is a certified police cyclist and is a member of the department's bike patrol. Tony is also a fire fighter with the Preston Fire Department.  Officer Urwin was awarded the Award of Valor for his life saving efforts with Reserve Officer Jayson Heiar in 2007. 

 

 

Jayson Heiar, Reserve Police Officer (49-34)

 

Jayson was hired as a reserve police officer in October of 2006. Jayson has completed training in firearms, ASP baton, OC Pepper Spray and Taser.  Jayson also serves as a fire fighter in Bellevue.  Reserve Officer Heiar was awarded the Award of Valor for his lifesaving efforts in 2007 with Officer Urwin. 

 

Jesse Budde, Reserve Police Officer (49-35)

Jesse was hired as a reserve police officer in November of 2007.  Jesse has completed training in firearms, ASP baton, OC Pepper Spray and Taser.  Jesse is a member of the Preston Fire Department and serves as an EMT for the Preston-Miles Community Ambulance Service.
