Municipal Electric Utility

Preston operates an electric utility retail distribution system and maintains a standby/peak generation capability for the entire town. The utility participates in an aggregate power purchase to ensure the lowest possible energy prices.

City crews are on continuous call for line maintenance or emergency generation to ensure uninterrupted power for Preston residents and businesses.


Municipal Gas Utility

The City of Preston maintains a natural gas distribution system with 431 customers. City residential gas rates fluctuate each month based on the actual cost of gas purchased by the city per cubic foot for the pervious month. In addition to this charge, there is a non-gas commodity charge of $1.98 per MCF and a flat monthly service charge of $4.00 per meter. There is a utility representative on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to respond to problems, question or concerns residents may have. Our utility representative also oversees any digging or building projects to ensure the safety of our customers working around the municipal gas line.


Municipal Water & Sewer

The City of Preston operates a complete water system with two deep wells, two water towers, with complete chlorine and fluoride treatment. The sewer department operates three lift stations and a  five cell treatment lagoon with capacity for extensive growth. Water & sewer residential rates are a combined $3.50/ thousand gallons with a $30.00 monthly minimum.
